The term computer-aided software development (RSE) or English computer Aided software engineering (CASE) designates the intensive employment of IT-supported tools for the conversion of a software conception.

CASE Tools are programs, those the software engineer when planning, the draft and documentation of its results of working (software) support. An important component of CASE Tools is a graphic notation way, which serves the visualization of the architecture of the software system.

CASE Tools are often in IDEs (Integrated development Environment) integrated; sometimes there is also independent applications, whose focus lies completely on CASE to offer (without thereby the other typical elements of a development environment).

CASE Tools support the so-called structured proceedings structured analysis and structured Design (SA/SD) apart from the modern object-oriented graphic notation way UML, sometimes also, as well as the data modelling methods Entity Relationship modelling (ERM/SERM).
