Closing hour the time is called, to which restaurants must stop their enterprise. This regulation served the safety device of the night rest. It applied and also today still applies in many cities. In Munich for example, which possessed a comparatively strict closing hour regulation over long years, the closing hour was reduced in the morning 2004 after a one year's test phase in selected urban districts to one finery hour between 5 and 6 o'clock. Also in other cities the regulation is in the meantime waived.

In Cologne the closing hour is waived in each case at the Karnevalswochenende. Also Bremen waives these in the time of Bremen of the Freimarkts.

In cities, in which there is no more general closing hour, nevertheless the offices for order for restaurants, which lie in populated areas, issue editions to the safety device of the night rest, how long a restaurant may be opened. In Great Britain the closing hour was abolished to 25 November 2005, in order to fight the Binge Drinking. However only few hundred restaurants requested a all day opening time, over 60.000 however an opening to 1 o'clock in the morning.
