A clamping board, also tie-clip board mentioned, is a thin board, which is provided with a strong clammy one at the upper end.
Clamping boards are usually somewhat larger than the paper format DIN A4. Into those clammy one can be clamped a Papierstapel, the board serves then as Schreibunterlage. Clamping boards are used whenever no suitable or comfortable Schreibunterlage is present (so for instance with lectures or with questionings in pedestrian precincts).
"Board" is to be taken here not literally. It is not used in the sense by wood, but because a hard document forms it. Clamping boards consist frequently of pasteboard, which is welded into plastic, whereby those is riveted above clammy ones; there is partly also an additional clammy one at the left side.
Professional clamping boards consist of aluminum and often have an additional paper subject, a stretcher loop as well as a lighting.
The Japanese Kenji Kawakami developed the clamping board further to the portable desk. Equipped with files, waste-paper basket, office lamp and all materials it offers the possibility to hasty businessmen also on the way and in going to work. This invention was meant however jokeful and belonged into the range of the Chindogus.
