Citizen Watch Corp. are a Japanese clock and clockwork manufacturer
The enterprise was created 1918 by Juwelier Yamalaki in Tokyo. With Swiss machines produced sold one from 1924 on as Citizen Watch, a name, which 1930 also the enterprise received. one began 1936 then to export clocks.
After the Second World War the enterprise expanded immensely. 1958 brought Citizen out the first Japanese wrist-watch with waking function, in the same year began one also to co-operate with Bulova which flowed in particular into the 1970 introduced Citizen tuning fork clock, followed from that world-wide first quartz wrist-watch with LCD announcement. That 1966 the first Japanese wrist-watch with electromechanical work preceded.
Citizen was one the first clock manufacturer, that developed wrist-watches for dipping sportsmen with integrated Tiefenmesser. This function is contained also in digital dipping computers. Beginning of the 1990er-Jahre was Citizen the first mass production manufacturer, that manufactured clock cases from titanium.
In the meantime Citizen is the world largest clock and clockwork manufacturer. Besides it is one of the three Japanese manufacturers, that manufacture also mechanical works. Works, which are not built into own clocks, carry the label name "MIYOTA". The main competitors are Seiko and Casio.
