Charles Franklin chain ring (* 29 August 1876 on a farm in close proximity to Loudonville, Ohio; "† 25 November (after other sources 24 November) 1958) was a farmer, school teacher, engineer, scientist, inventor and philosopher. Because of its weak eyes it had to interrupt twice its study of the mechanics and electro-technology at Ohio State University, before it could successfully lock it 1904. After its conviction innovations resulted earliest from interdisciplinary co-operation and it tried to use this principle everywhere.

Chain ring was owner of more than 300 patents. It invented the electrical ignition with combustion engines and the electrical vehicle lighting. Its first working premises were with that national cash register company in Dayton, where it invented the first electrical cash register. Chain ring created the Dayton engineering Laboratories company (Delco), which 1920 were sold at general of engine and renamed in general of engine Research corporation. Chain ring became vice-president of the company and remained 27 years long development boss by GM.
