ZMD AG

The center microelectronics Dresden AG (short ZMD AG) is a semiconductor manufacturer from Dresden. Into the 1980er the ZMD applied for years as heart of the GDR microelectronics research. The origin of the today's enterprise ZMD decreases/goes back to the establishment of an institute for molecular electronics in the year 1961. Only at the beginning of the 80's took place the integration into the collective combine microelectronics Erfurt and later into the collective combine Carl Zeiss Jena. Director centers at that time of the Forschungsinistituts for microelectronics special engineering was Ulf God-bolts. Still in the year 1969 (the year of the establishment of AMD) the enterprise firmierte as working group molecular electronics Dresden. 1988 produced the ZMD the first 1-Megabit-Speicherchip of the GDR, reached however to 1990 no quantity production of the chip. 1993 were created with the ZMD GmbH of the forerunners of the today's AG; in December 2001 the transformation took place into an AG.

Today the enterprise has about 625 persons employed, of it approximately 250 engineers, who are predominantly in the product development active. The ZMD developments are used in the automobile and industrial electronics, the medical technology and for infrared data communication (IrDA), for example in mobile phones and laptops. The enterprise mixed thereby on production and marketing of analog-digital application-specific circuits (ASICs) and application-specific standard products (ASSPs) with low current consumption specializes. The enterprise develops also mix OD signal system on chip (SoC), particularly as applications for the automobile industry ("x by Wire ").

The enterprise has its head office in Dresden and had over selling offices in the American Santa Clara (California), San Diego (APPROX.) and Melville (NY), in Filderstadt Bernhausen with Stuttgart and Dresden as well as Design centers in Dresden and Filderstadt Bernhausen and in the American Madison (Wisconsin).

ZFOUNDRY

The 100%ige subsidiary ZFOUNDRY manufactures the products of the ZMD AG and is responsible for necessary Subcontract services such as assembly or test. Beyond that the society under the label name offers ZFOUNDRY world-wide its manufacturing production line for similar to, mix OD signal and power management products. In January 2005 with 1st silicone (Malaysia) final strategic partnership will flow into a flexible for applications of automobiles. The planned availability of two independent sources (Dresden and Kuching) for complex high voltage and mix OD signal technologies guarantees a future-oriented and secured supply of automobile customers.

Silicone Saxony

As the so-called "grandfather of microelectronics "in Dresden the ZMD AG created 2000 together with 19 other Saxonian enterprises the association silicone Saxony e.V.ZMDs CEO and President, Thilo of Selchow, is also the CEO and President of silicone Saxony registered association.
