Cedi (GHC) is since 19 July 1965 the official currency of the African State of Ghana.

The name is derived from the word sedie (Kauri), the Kaurigeld used by the coastal trunks. A Cedi corresponds to 100 Pesewas. The forerunner of the Cedi was since independence the Ghanaian Pound, to the colonial ages applied the westAfrican Pound


In the circulation notes for 5, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000 and 20,000 are Cedi. Only the notes starting from 1000 Cedis are however in Gebrauch.Seit 1965 notes with the following values were still generally given change:

There are coins in the value of 10, 20 and 50 Pesewas; 10, 20.50, 100, 200 and 500 Cedi. The Pesewas as well as the 10 and 20 Cedi pieces are to be hardly still seen today however due to its small value.
