Catherine Monvoisin (* around 1632, "† 1680), called La Voisin, was a French Giftmischerin.

Catherine Monvoisin lived at the outskirts of a town of Paris. Together with its daughter and several colleagues it sold provided Horoskope against stately fees of poisons, dear watering places, and said the future, operated Voodoo charms and broke unwanted pregnancies off. In addition it celebrated black fairs, with which babies were sacrificed.

Many members of the high aristocracy belonged to her customers, under it also madame de Montespan, to keep who of many years Ludwig XIV., which bought with La Voisin charm watering place to and the king secretly in meals and drinking mixed them, in order its favour.

1679 arose into of Paris rumors, which according to in the city numerous poison murders had been committed. The Polizeikommissar Nicholas de La Reynie introduced an investigation. In the course of the determinations 218 persons cross-examined - partially under torture -, were sent 4 to 36 by the sword or on the heap of failure executed, on the Galeeren, banished 34 and acquitted 30. During excavations on La Voisins property one found the remnants of 2500 driven off, dead, early or to newborn babies. The blood of the children had been used for charm watering place.

Catherine Monvoisin died 1680 on the heap of failure. Madame de was witness of their execution and wrote in their letters:

"Before Notre-Dame it refused carrying apology out and at the Greve place with hands and feet resisted stepping out. One pulled it out and brought her on the wood impact, lashed her in sitting position with iron chains, covered her with straw. It aligns straight on, pushed five or six times the straw away, but the fire finally blazed up, and it ward to no more seen. Their ash flies around now in air. Thus Mrs. Voisin died, famous for her crimes and her heidnischen Unglauben."

Madame de Montespan came only after La Voisins death under suspicion. Ludwig became XIV only now. clearly, why it after each evening with its loving on the next morning with headache awaked. Over the years it must have taken enormous amounts of poison to itself. Madame de Montespan escaped a police investigation probably, because it would have meant a Blamage for Ludwig, if it had come out that he had been enticed by dear watering place. The favour of the king had however irreparably lost madame de Montespan.

The poison affair ended with a last execution in July 1683. Later the king issued few days a law, which regulated the trade with poison materials.
