Carroll Shelby (* 11 January 1923 in Leesburg, Texas, the USA) is a former US-American running driver, 24 hours of Le Mans winner and today's technical designer of sports cars.

As a son of a texanischen Farmers, which wanted to try more out to take over than only even the enterprise Shelby the engine haven provoked much. Its first running denied it 1952 on a borrowed mg. At the surprise everything succeeded to it soon thereafter the total victory in this class, whereby it could refer even the much more highly estimated Jaguar XK 120S into the barriers.

Like many other Americans of its generation the interest in sports car running pulled it to Europe, where it denied some running at the "Scuderia center Sud".

Its largest success as drivers was the victory with the 24-Stunden-Rennen von Le Mans 1959 at the side of Roy Salvadori on a Aston Martin DBR 1.

In addition Shelby was one the driver of "Felthams Formula 1 Squad". For this team it reserved a respected seat during the Formel-1-Saison 1959 with large price by Portugal in the city park the Monsanto by Lisbon.

After conclusion of its racing career it turned to the construction and/or the change of sports cars perfectly.

Thus it remained many as a creator of the legendary Shelby AC Cobras in the memory, with which it successfully provoked the Gran Turismo Ferrari. In addition it was received with the Formel-1-Piloten Dan Gurney a partnership and created the team "universe American Racers" (AAR), which besides by Goodyear was supported. The abbreviation "AAR" was interpreted also as "Anglo American Racers", particularly since the AC Cobra was based on a British AC chassis and also in its F1-Boliden "Eagle" a British Weslake-V12-Motor used Gurney later.
