The Caribbean community (English Caribbean Community and Common Market), abbreviation of CARICOM, is a union from countries of the Caribbean Region. It was created 1973 as result negotiations by the contract of Chaguaramas. Their seat is Georgetown (Guyana). The first four signatory states were Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. Predecessor organization was the Caribbean foreign trade zone CARIFTA (Caribbean Free trade AREA). With the establishment that CARICOM began the change from a foreign trade zone, oriented at the EEC, to a community, which did not only contain economic co-operation. 2001 signed the heads of the government a new contract of Chaguaramas, with which a Caribbean community was established.

Full members are the following 15 states: Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. of cement and Nevis, pc. Lucia, pc. Vincent and the Grenadinen, Suriname as well as Trinidad and Tobago. Five British overseas territories (Anguilla, Bermuda, British young remote islands, dock one islands and Turks and Caicosinseln) are associated members.

A goal of CARICOM is the coordination of the foreign policy as well as co-operation in the ranges health and social, education, culture and sport, science and technology. For economic integration the Caribbean Common Market (English Caribbean Common Market, CCM) was created, to that however Bermuda did not belong. It forms a customs union with a common external customs tariff. In addition double taxation agreements and co-operation exist in the range of the development planning and for the promotion of the industrialization between the countries.

In the member countries that CARICOM live about 15 Mill. humans. Most states are considered as developing countries with low income.
