The career or vocational career (v. franz. is the personal career of humans in his working life. Colloquially the term career thereby frequently connected with change of the qualification and utility position as well as the social ascent and with it , by which also the affiliation to a social layer can change.

Term

• If a successful amateur in sport or another area earns itself vocationally completely concentrated on this range and than professional its living costs alone thereby, one speaks also of a professional career, e.g. as Boxer, tennis player or a hit singer.
• In the public administration the career of a person in the official career in Germany is regulated.
• In the transferred sense one can speak e.g. also of a drug career or a criminal career.

History

Historical research, social history and genealogy stand pretty often before the task to reconstruct the career of humans from the existing sources in (short) Biografien. In former times like today young humans did not occur finished the life: Farmer sons were often for many years farmhands on strange yards, fellow tenants or before perhaps they could take over a property; the young women were housemaid, Mueller etc.; the ministers after the study only once private teachers for the children of noble one etc. - Career break and changes of profession are pretty often the results of economic structural changes, as for instance the fall of the mining industry.
