Capital crime is historically more justifiedly, meanwhile only colloquial term for a special heavy criminal offence, for example for murder or conspiracy. The designation leads itself from latin capitalis - German: mainly; the head (caput), concerning the head - off. A capital crime is thus a main crime. Originally the term with the loss of the life designated criminal offences which can be suspected.

With capital in the sense of money the term does not have to do anything.
