Caleb Bradham (* 1867; "† 1934) were a pharmacist and inventor of the refreshment beverage Pepsi Cola.

Invention of Pepsi Cola

Caleb Bradham was a pharmacist in new Berne, in the US Federal State North Carolina. Its pharmacy was a small business at the corner Middle Street and pole LOCK Street in the heart of new Berne. Like many pharmacies around the turn of the century also Bradham had a so-called "soda machine" equipment for the enrichment of water with carbonic acid in its pharmacy.

Bradham had the idea to manufacture a beverage on basis of water enriched with carbonic acid which work both good-tasting and digest-promoting and also and refreshment beverage should be enjoyed. In addition this beverage should not contain impurities, which were to be found at this time in many health stabilization means. Also he wanted to do without the anaesthetics, which were contained in popular refreshment beverages at this time.

As best seller turned out after some attempts in the summer 1893 a beverage, which Bradham made of char-acid drinking water, sugar, vanilla, oil, Pepsin and Cola This beverage called Bradham "Brad's drink".

1898 were renamed the beverage in "Pepsi Cola". This new name carried Pepsin and Cola calculation for the contents materials. In the same year Bradham acquired the brand name "Pep Cola" likewise from a competitor in Newark, in the U.S. - Federal State new jersey. At this time the syrup was manufactured as basis of the beverage in the cellar of the pharmacy and supplied predominantly to 1-Gallonen (approx. 3.8 l) and (approx. 19 l) at pharmacies in the environment. Until had Pepsi Cola so at popularity won 1902 that Bradham realized that he had found a market gap with this beverage. Thus it created its company with seat in North Carolina on 24 December 1902. On 16 June 1903 the new name was registered as brand name. Bradhams neighbour, an artist, sketched the first Logo of the mark and it first 97 to shares of the new company was spent.
