By-products do not fall within very many ranges of the human activity on by any means only in the industry.
There one calls "by-product" traditionally everything, which results during the production of a Hauptprodukts besides and often also unwanted. Frequent industrielle of by-products are e.g. the carbon dioxide in the energy industry and with nearly all forms of the burn, or different cinders - for instance in many branches of the metallurgy and with blast furnaces. Also in the chemical industry it lacks not on "By-products" - and not all are still as good to use as molasses or gypsum in the foodstuffs industry (e.g. see Jungbunzlauer. Even nature near activities by-products bring so-called weeds with itself - not least in the garden or in the agriculture.
Often today such by-products no more - like usually in former times - are deposited or burned, but supplied to a recycling. Sometimes already in earlier times it happened that by-products gained significance in such a way that the relationship to the Hauptprodukt turned around:
