The term Business Process engine designates a system for the rule-based control of business processes along a creation of value chain with the goal of implementing business functions, which are implemented in different applications or components, in a pre-defined automated succession and of realizing so application-spreading services. One speaks here also of Business Process automation (BPA) or Business Process management (BPM).
