The term bulk material calls a solid accumulation of particles, which are in relation to the total quantity small and from in same grain size. Bulk material is loose, dry raw ore.

A bulk material can behave therefore flow after exceeding of an activation energy as fluid. The particles remain thereby essentially, and/or change their form on the route of transportation not.

Typical bulk materials are

  • Building materials: Oberboden, sand, gravel, crushed stone, cement,
  • other mineral goods: Ore, thawing salt
  • Food: Grain (rice, wheat etc.), sugar, food salt, coffee, flour
  • powdered goods such as pigments
  • Fillers, granulates, pellets

Bulk materials are often stored in silos or shelters. They are transported continuously or intermittent.

  • continuous promoters:
    • Hollow belt conveyor (horizontal or light inclinations),
    • Bucket conveyors and ship unloading plants (in the vertical one or steep bevels),
    • Pneumatic fluids promotion in air flows
  • Intermittent transport:
    • in bulk material areas or - shelters (e.g. ships)
    • in hollow and high on-board vehicles (truck, railway ect.)
    • in silo car (truck, railway truck)
    • in bags or Bigbags

The bulk material mechanics concern themselves with camp and terms of carriage of bulk materials such as pouring angle, discharge behavior of silos, fluidization etc.
