Buffet Crampon is a French manufacturer of high-quality woodwind instruments. The enterprise is most well-known since more jeher for its clarinets, in addition but to the product range count flutes, oboes, saxophones and bassoons.

History

1825 received the French instrument farmer Denis Buffet Auger the right to open in the Paris city center a workshop. It became by the development of the 13-Klappenklarinette in the music world fast admits. At this time clarinets were made completely in manual work.

Since that time the enterprise received numerous prices and honors for its instruments, in particular during that to Paris world exhibition 1889.

1918 entered Buffet Crampon into the American market and became soon the world largest clarinet manufacturer.

1921 occurred the Akustiker Robert the enterprise. He presented the famous model R13 to 1950, an instrument very popular with professional Klarinettisten, from which he developed 1974 the model RC.

1981 were taken over Buffet Crampon of Boosey & Hawkes.

1994 presented Buffet Crampon a composite material named "Green LINE" as wood replacement, which consists of 95 per cent ebony powder and five per cent carbon fiber and is characterised by a clearly smaller sensitivity in relation to variations in temperature than wood. Besides Buffet with this development made a contribution for the protection of the African leguminous plant plant Dalbergia melanoxylon, from which the otherwise used Grenadill wood is won.

2003 separated Boosey & Hawkes all instrument making enterprises into the consortium The Music Group. 2005 separated The Music Group for its part from Buffet Crampon.

On 4 January 2006 Buffet Crampon took over the largest French manufacturer of sheet metal wind instruments Antoine Courtois.

Clarinet models

Buffet developed its product range in the course of the years continuously and developed existing instruments further.
