The brush ( is the most important tool of the Chinese Kalligrafie and painting. It belongs to the bar india ink with the paper, and Reibstein to the four treasures of the scholar room.
The brush is substantially more flexible than the western Malerpinsel and possesses a flexible core from weasel hair, which is coated by the longer goat or hare hair. Therefore it always runs out in a hair-fine point, which forms again again with the raising.
Also the attitude is different than the brush attitude of a western painter. The grasp consisting usually of bamboo is led always perpendicularly to the writing or mark surface, which lies always flat on the table. During the writing thereby neither the fingers nor the wrist are moved, but the writing and mark movement come from the shoulder and the elbow. Ideally the hand is to be able to lead freely floating the brush across the paper. The Tuschlinien is modulated by low pressure or raising of the brush, changes in their width and received thus their characteristic expression.
