Bruno Richard captain (* 26 November 1899 in Kamenz, Saxonia; " 3 April 1936 in Trenton, new jersey) was a German emigrant, who was condemned and executed because of the kidnapping and the murder by Charles Lindberghs son Charles Lindbergh III to death.

Biografie

Life in Germany and the First World War

Captain was born on 26 November 1899 in Kamenz/Saxonia. It visited eight years the school, two years the professional school and learned carpenters. In the First World War it served as machine gun contactors at the west front and repeated wounded, also by poisonous gas. After 1918 he did not find like many of its war comrades a work.

It began the life of a criminal one, fallow in three dwellings in and attacked two women, from who it removed food marks. His former comrade Fritz Petzold helped it. Captain was seized and condemned to five years and one week prison in Bautzen. From this punishment he paid for however only four years off. Briefly after its release he was again arrested, when he tried to sell stolen leather belts. It escaped from the remand and left allegedly its prisoner clothes with a note best one of greetings to the police.

Immigration into the USA

Thereupon it tried to immigrate illegaly to the USA, was however twice seized and to Germany sent back. Only the third attempt in November 1923 succeeded; he had disguised himself and used a falsified passport.

In the USA it met a German Immigrantin in the spring 1924 on Anna likewise. It had entered on 1 January 1924 legally into the USA. In October 1925 they married. The two possessed a dwelling in the Bronx. Captain worked as a carpenter, its wife in a baker's shop.

The Lindbergh kidnapping and captain arrest

At the 1. March 1932 was kidnapped the 20-monatige Sohn of the aviation pioneers Anne and Charles Lindbergh, Charles Augustus Lindbergh III. Negotiations with several alleged kidnappers were led. The process

John Condon identified captain as the man, to who he had handed over the money. It was proven that one had been made with the kidnapping used ladder from wood in captain carpenter workshop. In addition two witnesses stated against it.

However captain insisted on its innocence and stated that it had gotten the money of Isidor fish. Pieces of evidence were unmasked as falsifications. As turned out was intimidated, captain of the police was struck and the witnesses. Also the reference to Isidor fish was not continued to pursue, although this had fled to Europe and its ticket with gold certificate notes had paid.

The execution

The execution was set for 17 January 1936. After threefold delay and refusal of a pardon request the death sentence was executed on 3 April 1936. Anthony Hopkins played the role of the Richard captain in TV-production The Lindbergh Kidnapping Case of 1976. 1996 took over Stephen Rea the role, for a production of the HBO with the title Crime OF the Century.
