British Togo country was between 1918 and 1957 a so-called protectorate of the in west Africa.

Emergence British Togo country

British Togo country developed as result of the allocation of the former German colony Togo country as a result of the First World War. At the end of August 1914, few weeks after the outbreak of the war, had France and Great Britain this German colony occupies, after they had before rejected the offer of the German governor to accept Togo as neutral area. The German governor had recruited for his offer, by having referred to "the bad example of the natives", if European soldiers with native auxiliary troops shoot one on the other. French troops had marched nevertheless into the north, British troops into the south of the German colony. Large parts of the people of the Ewe, which placed the majority in south Togo, had welcomed this allocation, since they were united now under British rule with their relatives in the British neighbour colony gold coast. Frenchmen and the British agreed however on an allocation into a British west and a French East part of the area, whereby the people of the Ewe was again divided, this time into a British and a French part. 1918 were slammed shut the British part by resolution of the to the "protectorate British Togo country", actually however the area of the British colony gold coast.

Integration into the State of Ghana

May 1956 came it to a popular vote into British Togo country whether the area that was to be slammed shut straight developing new State of Ghana. The majority of the population altogether expressed itself for it even if the majority of the Ewe (thus the majority in the south of the tuning area) were correct against it. Togo country became British thereupon 1957 together with the British colony at that time gold coast as part of the new State of Ghana independently, the Ewe nationalism were however long time a problem for the recent State of Ghana. Thus several groups of rebels developed like e.g. Togo country Unification movement (movement for the combination of Togo country) and EWE unification movement (EWE combination movement).

The French part against it attained 1960 its independence under the name Togo. The former British Togo country covers itself today spatially to a large extent with the Ghanaian province Volta region.
