Breda was an Italian mechanical engineering enterprise with seat in Brescia. It was created 1925 as italiana Ernesto Breda by costruzioni meccaniche of Ernesto Breda and was promoted in the following years to a multi-company so quite all this which with the building of machines, motor vehicles (except passenger vehicle) rail-mounted vehicles of all kinds and ships to do somehow had in its program led.

Breda was also an important manufacturer of war material in the Second World War and to 1951 also airplanes was built. Particularly to emphasize here the Breda Zappata B.Z.308 is, a large passenger plane the 1948 for the first time flew and their time far ahead was. In the 60's the company in Finanziaria E was renamed. Breda. In the year 1992 it came to the Finmeccanica company, which integrated it 1994 into the enterprise Oto Melara, whereby the part of the enterprise "Otobreda" developed there. 2001 came up Breda on arrangement of the company nut/mother in Oto Melara, parts of the enterprise by Ansaldo were completely taken over.

Breda was in particular in the range traffic and arms technology active. Were manufactured beside railways and Trambahnen among other things also machine guns and automatic cannons up to 40 mm caliber (lighter weapons in Italy particularly by Beretta are built).
