Bootsmann designates a soldier in the lowest sergeant rank in Germany with the German Federal Armed Forces within the German navy. In the other armed services this rank is called sergeant. Belonging one of the group of careers of the officers go through this rank as a wo1 to sea.

Soldiers in this rank can give crews and NCOs without Portepee of instructions within the borders set by the superior regulation (VorgV).
