bol.de was created as subsidiary company of the Bertelsmann DirectGroup. bol is on-line one thereby the abbreviation for Bertelsmann. The business developed however not as hoped for by Bertelsmann. For this reason bol.de was sold in December 2002 to the buch.de Internet net curtains AG. The Bertelsmann DirectGroup received in response a participation of 25,1% in the buch.de Internet net curtains AG, which supplemented her two years later on 26,7%. bol.de is one of altogether thirteen Internet Shops the buch.de Internet net curtains AG and ranks together with buch.de among the turnover-strongest Shops of the corporation in Germany. With bol.de are sold beside books also CDs, DVDs, software and computer games.
