By boat parts (English Boat sharing) one understands the common enterprise, maintenance and the use of boats (above all entertainment, in particular small sailing boats - it would have sailing boat parts is called actually more exact) by an Non profit organization. The organization is usually a self-help cooperative or an association, with increasing Professionalisierung and commercialization also a GmbH or an AG. The boats can be property of the boat partial organization or include from other owners over use contracts.

As the members and user in a boat partial organization unite, the boats can be better charged to capacity, than boats are otherwise working at full capacity in private property. The costs per gesegelte hour or day are deeper, because the fixed costs can be put down on more time and users. This advantage alone counterbalances the expenditure for the reservation system and the remaining administration by far.

For the individual members and users further advantages result in relation to enterprise, maintenance and use of a private boat except the cost advantage:

The limiting factor for the growth of a boat partial organization are the boat couch places. By the comparatively high extent of utilization of the boats and therefore also the boat couch places a more economical and nachhaltigere use of scarce resources makes possible boat couch places, which become couch places with priority by people used for boat parts, which also actually use it. In this sense the lighter entrance to the Segelsport, which makes for boat parts possible, is also fairer. SailCom

The oldest and largest boat partial organization is the Swiss cooperative SailCom. It was created 1991 as combined autopartial and boat partial cooperative under the name ShareCom. 1997 fused the autopartial part of the ShareCom with that car divide cooperative ATG to Mobility CarSharing Switzerland, and the boat partial part of ShareCom became the independent cooperative SailCom. It has 1425 members (February 2006) and has 57 sailing boats on 16 Swiss lakes in their offer, of it is 34 boats property of the cooperative, and 23 boats are located in use contracts with other owners. The number of members from SailCom annually grew from 2002 to 2005 by 10-15%. So strong growth is a challenge for a cooperative, which is carried particularly by the members in its spare time and only some few partial time employees has.

As it functions

Who wants to use SailCom boats, SailCom member must be; who SailCom member wants to become, must

  • a Swiss boat driving licence category D for "sailing boats with more than 15 m2 sail surface" (so-called "D-light") possess, and

The reservation of the sailing boats is made by Internet (that is the part of the reservations outweighing far) or telephone (the center is 24 hours occupied all days; for this SailCom has a contract with Mobility CarSharing Switzerland). The boat use is accounted for per reserved hour and/or day. The tariff for a full day (24 hours) is equal to the fivefold one of the tariff for one hour. The tariffs are graduated after size and equipment of the boats and price of the couch place. At weekends and holidays easily higher prices apply.
