The board of experts for the investigation of the overall economic development, colloquially the five restaurant ways mentioned is a committee, which was used in the year 1963. It is concerned scientifically with the overall economic development of Germany. A goal is the independent consultation of the Federal Government for this purpose an appraisal is annually provided, which is transmitted to the Federal Government by 15 November. The Federal Government takes at the latest eight weeks after collecting main of the appraisal in the context of the yearly economic report position. Beyond that the board of experts can be assigned by the respective Federal Government the production of special estate respecting.

The tasks of the board of experts and the appointment of the members is in an own law for the education of a board of experts for the investigation of the overall economic development regulated. To the tasks the analysis the overall economic situation and prognoses for the future belong. The experts are to point erroneous trends and possibilities out for their avoidance according to this law ", however no recommendations for certain economics and sociopolitical measures express ".

Appointment rules

The advice has five members, that will appoint in each case from the Federal President to suggestion of the Federal Government for the duration of five years. (Mostly unique) a reappointment is possible. In each case to the 1. March, the end advice-yearly, separates a member.

Traditionally the trade unions have a special say with one of the members the community committee of the German economy, with another member.

Problem

The prognoses for overall economic development are afterwards regarded rarely correct. However economic forecasts are also very difficult, since a great many factors of influence affect the economy.
