Board of directors designates occupied committees with control and steering element function in bodies of public right in Germany mostly honorary.

In Switzerland board of directors (Abk. VR) designates an organ in corporations, comparably with the supervisory board in Germany. Contrary to this the board of directors is however not only supervisory body (kind 716a exp. 1 number. 5 [[OR]]), but at the same time for the overhead line of the society (kind 716a exp. 1 number. 1 [[OR]]) responsible. Although a management (Germany: Executive committee) to be used knows, does not know the VR of these the overhead line not transferred (kind 716a exp. 1 [[OR]]: ""… untransferable and unentziehbare tasks"…"). Dh., in accordance with Swiss law governing share transactions would be to be used it not compellingly necessary, a management. This is done however in practice for comprehensible reasons, with which also Swiss corporations close come to the binaryistic central organization of Germany.

In legal health insurance companies as bodies of the public right boards of directors are occupied usually in equal numbers with employee and employer representatives. Mostly are these members of the trade unions and the employers' associations. In some bodies of public right the members of the body select the board of directors in a social choice. Mostly the members of the board of directors are selected on 6 years.

Office designation (D)

In Germany board of directors is an office designation after federal pay law in the salary bracket A 13. It concerns here an additive (administrative) for basic office designation (advice). Boards of directors work usually at public mechanisms, which do not belong directly to the national administration, e.g. bodies of the public right, like e.g. municipalities. In other areas of application appropriate additives are used (secondary school teacher, academic advice etc.).
