The bio regionalism is a socio-economic movement, whose tendency is it, the life on the level of a so-called bio region in more economical to arrange social and agricultural way.
Bio regions are geographical areas, which form a certain unit and/or subunit regarding soil, climate, planting and animal world in addition, regarding the there living population. For the fixing of the boundaries between individual bio regions mostly the Wasserscheide of the rivers is consulted.
The basic principle of the bioregionalistic economy consists of the fact that humans extract their consumption and their work input of the supraregional economy from a bio region available at least partially and make for the structure of their bio region. This goal is among other things by the introduction of a complementary currency, which so-called Regiogeld is promoted partially in the form by free money. The bio regions should be economically as independent as possible, in order to develop a stable economy to a large extent independent of the fluctuations of the world economy, which is led by the native population.

The bio regionalism must be distinguished however from the separatism. Bio regionalism is rather a gentle, project-oriented, cultural current, which can exist in the nationalnational framework well. Between the individual bio regions strong inter+bioregionalistic solidarity and co-operation is to quite exist. The against the separatism is an aggressive political movement, which aims at the political detachment from a national state.
