The BILLA company is a Austrian grocer, who belongs to the German REWE group.

1954 opened Karl Wlaschek in vienna new building a and offered branded articles for Diskountpreisen. In the consequence the WKW (trade Karl Wlaschek) grew and covered already 1960 45 branches. Wlaschek transferred the concept to the foodstuffs sector, introduced the self-service system and called its branches starting from 1961 BILLA (for "cheap shop "). By the buying up of suppliers, the compression of the branch network and the expansion of the offer (bio products, journeys) BILLA grew to the today well-known size. In July 1996 Billa was transferred by the Cologne REWE group, the largest grocer of Europe. In the year 1998 Billa with approx. 25,000 coworkers obtained a conversion of converted 4.4 billion euro in almost 1,000 branches. Billa has today the selling lines penny, Bipa, Merkur, emma and the travel agency ITS BILLA journeys. The center is in Viennese new village in Lower Austria.

Under the mark Billa and their controlling body for the expansion business Eurobilla has Rewe in addition, supermarkets in Italy, Tschechien, the Slowakei, Romania, Ukraine and Bulgaria. 2005 were forced the further expansion in Croatia with an assumption and the newest child of the Eurobilla family was lifted in Russia with the assumption of a local chain from the baptism.

The largest competitors in Austria are SAVE Austria, Hofer, Lidl, ADEG Austria, goal, plus and MPREIS (predominant in Tirol), Metro and Schlecker.
