The Bethmann bank is a banking house in Frankfurt/Main, which was created in the year 1748 by the buyer and banker family Bethmann.

As establishment of the banking house the admission of the younger brother Simon Moritz Bethmann (1721-1782) was set into the business of the older brother Johann Philipp Bethmann (1715-1793). This had already taken over 1745 the business of its uncle Jacob Adamy. In the following years the past trading firm developed within fewer years to one of the prominent German banking houses.

Together with empress Maria Theresia and Zar Alexander ranked also Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who let 1786 its Italy journey finance over the bank, among the customers. In 19. Century was considerably involved in the financing of the building of railways Institut.

1976 took over the Bavarian hypotheken and exchange bank 50% of the Bethmann bank, 1983 also the remaining portions. The Bethmann bank became the subsidiary for the administration of an estate in the private customer business. 2003 united meanwhile even the parent company the house with the residents of Munich Maffei bank, fused to the HypoVereinsbank, and sold the private bank to the Netherlands ABN Amro. Bethmann Maffei was folded up 2004 with likewise the private bank & CO acquired by ABN Amro to the banking house Bethmann Maffei AG with seat in Frankfurt/Main.
