Benjamin Guggenheim (* 26 October 1865 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; "† 15 April 1912 with the fall of the Titanic) was an US-American businessman.
The family Guggenheim comes from Lengnau, canton Aargau, in the north of Switzerland. In the year 1847 the grandfather of Benjamin Guggenheim, Simon Guggenheim, together with its wife and his twelve children, under it also the father of Benjamin Guggenheim, Meyer Guggenheim, over Hamburg emigrated into the USA.
The family Guggenheim made its money by the sales of imported embroidery work, finery means and coffee from Switzerland. 1888 received it however from a debtor the prospecting licenses at a mine. The work proved as difficult, however one found a large lead and silver occurrence. Other US dismantling companies were formed to a union, which the family Guggenheim did not join. Short time later took over the family Guggenheim the portions of all enterprises of this union and controlled thereafter occasionally over 80 % for the world-wide promotion of copper, silver and lead.
Benjamin Guggenheim married 1894 Floretta Seligman and got three daughters: Benita Guggenheim, Peggy Guggenheim and Hazel Guggenheim.
After Benjamin Guggenheim had left its family, he was together with its young loved passenger of the Titanic. When it had assigned to its loving a place in a life raft and to other passengers had helped, it put on its evening clothing and said to a member of the crew: "We are dressed appropriate and ready, like Gentlemen for going down ". Thus Benjamin Guggenheim died on 15 April 1912 during the fall of the Titanic.
