Benefit fitness characteristic is the official name for a European Union-uniform symbol on food packing. It is called also veterinarian inspection number.

One finds it on milk and all milk products where it is European Union far by the milk regulation from 20 July 2000 prescribed. It is used also for other animal food. In Germany the characteristic of the offices for veterinarian investigation of the Lands of the Federal Republic will assign. The characteristic means, which the enterprise of which the product last treated and/or packed after European Union widths hygiene standards works and accordingly one supervises. It is meant therefore not for the consumer but the supervising authorities. The consumer can draw conclusions from the marking only on the route of transportation. Conclusions e.g. on the origin of the raw materials are not possible over it.

German benefit fitness characteristics consist of a 4-teiligen code, e.g. "D-HH-000-EWG "is bordered by an ellipse. The first three parts stand for:

1. The country (RK, B, DK, D, EL, E, F, FI, IRL, I, L, NL, P, SE, UK;)
2. Dependent on the product
   • With Milcherzeugnissen: The Land of the Federal Republic (BB, German Federal Armed Forces, BY, HB, HE, rear spar, mV, NI, size, RP, SH, SL, SN, ST, TH;)
   • With butcher certifications: The kind of the enterprise (EHK hackfleisch and meat preparing enterprise (independent production unit), IT battle enterprise (meat), ESG battle enterprise (poultry), ESK battle enterprise (house rabbit), EUZ repacking enterprise after the meat and poultry meat hygiene right, EV processing plant (meat), EZ dismantling enterprise (meat), EZG dismantling enterprise (poultry meat), EZK dismantling enterprise (house rabbit);)
3. The operating number
4. Abbreviation for the European Economic Community (CEE, EEC, EOK, ETY, EEC, EEG;) or the European community (CE, EF, EEC, EK, EC, EY;)

In other countries other rules can apply to the second and third part of the code.
