Belding H. Scribner (* 18 January 1921 in Chicago; "† 19 June 2003 in Seattle) was an US-American physician.

1960 developed Belding Scribner to the Washington University in Seattle an interface (shunt) for the blood vessel system of a patient.

Patients with kidney failure an artificial blood vessel from teflon was implantiert into the lower arm. This artificial container made for the first time a longer hemodialysis possible over several months. The terminal kidney failure became for the first time really therapierbar thereby.

The first patient, who was treated 1960 by Scribner with the shunting technology, was called Clyde Shields. It survived its chronic kidney failure over eleven years and died 1971 at a heart illness.

For its achievements Belding Scribner 2002 with talk nonsense Lasker Award distinguished. It drowned to in that lake, which it crossed on the way to the work daily with the Kanu.
