The Bavarian AG is an internationally active company of the chemical industry with head office in Leverkusen. The company was created 1863 and came up 1925 in the industrial union colors. 1951 were again created the enterprise. The Bavarian company has today 350 societies and 93,700 coworkers (conditions 31 December 2005). In the year 2005 those gained Bavarian AG a settled profit of 2,812 billion euro (PUBLIC EXHIBITION FOR MULTIMEDIA) with a conversion of over 27 billion euro.
The operational business is led by three partial companies:
Most humans connect the most well-known medicine of the enterprise, the pain means aspirin with the name Bavarian.
Landmark of the Bavarian company is the Bavarian cross, which is to be seen at many larger locations of the enterprise. In a circle horizontally and perpendicularly the signature BAVARIAN is to be seen.
With the predecessor of the Bavarian cross a lion with wings supported itself by a world ball. 1930 were installed in Leverkusen the then largest Lichtreklame of the world: The diameter amounted to 72 meters, 2200 lamps provided for the lighting. The thing hung between two 126 meters high chimneys. 1958 one made the Bavarian cross smaller on a diameter of 51 meters. This corresponds to the today's form (January 2004).
The chemistry park Leverkusen, Hauptwerk and - seat the Bavarian AG, lies to the half in Leverkusen pointing village and on the other hand in Cologne quarters the Flittard. It possesses a Rhine binding, as well as a good road binding with the cross Leverkusen (A1/A3). The airport Cologne/Bonn is in the proximity, thus is ensured an air binding.
On the other Rhine side are the Ford works.
The enterprise was created on 1 August 1863 in Barmen - today a quarter of Wuppertal - by Friedrich Bavarian and Johann Friedrich Weskott. Synthetic color production represented the early purpose of the enterprise. The first large work developed later in Wuppertal Elberfeld, there then also a majority of the most important medicines like the aspirin or the Sulfonamide/chemotherapy (Gerhard Domagk - Medizinnobelpreis 1939) up to heroin was invented. This made Bavarian already in Wuppertal the world company. The high number of inhabitants of over 400.000 inhabitants in the highly industrialized valley of the Wupper did not permit a further expansion topografisch conditionally. The Wuppertaler chemist and successor of Friedrich Bavarian, Carl Duisberg, became in pointing village, a on the Rhine, surrounded by field, - the birth later Leverkusen.
In the following years the enterprise grew rapidly, the number of the coworkers rose from three in the year of the foundation 1863 to 1881 on over 300 persons employed. The further expansion was made possible by the transformation of the enterprise into a corporation 1881.
The research was developed among other things by Carl Duisberg. In Wuppertal Elberfeld a modern scientific laboratory develops. The enterprise around the turn of the century increased internationally actively and opens new business fields. To the color production, which had further the largest portion of the conversion, a pharmaceutical department came. 1897 were synthesized for the first time heroin. The most well-known result of the Bavarian research is that 1899 on the market medicine brought aspirin. Bavarian began 1904 with the production of photo chemicals. After the enterprise had its seat some years in Wuppertal Elberfeld, this location with further growth became too small. Leverkusen became 1912 new seat carrier.
1913 have the enterprise of approx. 10,000 coworkers, of it nearly 1,000 abroad. The enterprise created subsidiaries in France, Great Britain, Belgium, Russia and the USA. The export took 1913 a portion of 80% of the enterprise conversion.
By the First World War the enterprise loses a majority of its sales prospects. In Russia the subsidiary in consequence of the Russian revolution is expropriated, seized into which the USA the firm's property including all patents and sold to the competition. The conversion sinks from 1913 to 1919 around a third. During this time Bavarian is one of the main suppliers of poisonous gas for the front.
Already since 1905 a community of interests between Bavarian, Agfa and the BASF (S. industrial union colors) existed. 1915 were expanded these with further enterprises of the dye industry to a large community of interests.
Since the German Farbstoffindustrie stood there after the war more badly than before, the members of the community of interests decided 1925 to the fusion. The fortune of the company Bayer will transfer the mark Bavarian to the again created industrial union dye industry AG and from the trade register is removed.
Also the I.G. dye industry AG is not exempted from the world economic crisis at the beginning of the 1930er. The occupation and production sink drastically, from 12.450 coworkers in the year 1929 to 1932 2,650 will dismiss. Each fifth loses its job.
The works of the operating association rank for the National Socialist regime in the Second World War among the "war-important" enterprises. In addition, by the war the requirements grow to production, it ever more coworker to the war service are drawn in. Also in the works of the operating association obligation and immigrant workers are used. The portion of these constitutes a third of the staff to its high point.
On 14 April 1945 the work Leverkusen is taken by the Americans. The works at the Niederrhein lie in the British zone, therefore the British military government has complete control of them in the following years.
After the war allied winner powers plead for a breakdown of the industrial union into as much as possible small enterprises. Since these would be hardly however, the industrial union in only 12 enterprises, under it also the Bavarian AG is subdivided. The Bavarian AG was again created on 19 December 1951.
After the company lost for the second time any foreign asset, the selling is abroad again developed as fast as possible. Bavarian concentrates again on research and development and can register a positive business process in the context of the "Wirtschaftswunders".
1962 have those Bavarian AG in the Federal Republic of 61,000 persons employed and gain annual turnover of 4 billion DM.
In the time of 1973 to beginning of the 1980er years make the high prices for chemistry raw materials from oil the business more difficult of Bavarian. Bavarian develops however nevertheless its foreign selling, particularly in Western Europe and the USA. By several assumptions Bavarian achieves an important position also on the US-Pharmamarkt. 1974 are put the foundation-stone for the fifth Bavarian work in Germany in The plant protection research is developed, 1979 likewise continues to begin one in Monheim with the building of a plant protection center.
