Barra (also Barra POINT) is a city with historical meaning in the Gambia. It has about 5,421 inhabitants (estimation 2006) http://bevoelkerungsstatistik.de/.

Geography

The city is appropriate with in the North bank division, district Lower Niumi at the delta river the Gambia into the Atlantic ocean, approximately five kilometers of air line from Banjul far away.

History

Great Britain had forbidden and acquired the slave trade to 1807 in the year 1816 the address pc. Mary' s Iceland and established there the settlement Bathurst (today Banjul).
