The BANZAI! is a German-language Manga magazine, which appeared monthly with the Carlsen publishing house by November 2001 until December 2005 in altogether 50 expenditures and addressed themselves mainly to younger male readers. The edition amounted to 80,000 copies per month.
Banzai (jap. meant literally ten thousand years and is used as call in honours of a person or for announcing a victory. Suitable translations are Hurra! and a high on"Â…!.
, Still the Manga Schwestermagazin of the BANZAI appearing rather addressed to girls with the Carlsen publishing house! Daisuki is called.
The BANZAI! if Weekly Shonen Jump of the Shueisha publishing house took over Manga series from the Japanese magazine, in addition, published German own productions.
Beside the one gas the magazine generally contained Hintergundinformationen to the series, their authors and Japan. Likewise there was the Japanese course BANZAI! de Nihongo, the indication course Studio Mangaka, strange from Japan under the title Tokyo 109 as well as kind of fan and reader letters.
In irregular distances lay besides extras such as Sticker, poster or CD-ROM with (e.g. with demo versions of the Yu-Gi-Oh! - Computer games). Expenditure 2/2002 (No. 4) contained CD the Rappers Spax with the particularly produced, "official "song BANZAI, which met with little approval with the fans however.
As is the case for the Japanese model Weekly Shonen Jump were summarized the single chapters of the Manga series from the magazine to a large extent also in anthologies and again published.
The attitude of the BANZAI! in the booklet one justified in such a way: "(...) due to changes in the both with SHUEISHA and with Carlsen Comics is not possible the continuation (...). "
Dock Steffen black, program leader for one gas with Carlsen, expressed itself as follows: "We respect the decision of our Japanese partner, with which we continue to co-operate. The market has itself since the start of BANZAI! 2001 changed: If it was at that time still extremely important to test series on a recent market forwards there are today many other possibilities of taking up and to mad books of converting the desires of the fans very fast. "
Possibly the decision was affected by 2005 a come license agreement between the German TOKYOPOP publishing house and Shueisha, in which it was specified that all further Manga series of the Shueisha publishing house on German only may be published of TOKYOPOP. Although this does not concern existing German licenses already before, no more new Shueisha series are to the Carlsen publishing house thereby at the disposal.
