With Jeshwang, in the Kombo St. Mary AREA, was furnished in the year 1934 a landing field, which was operated by German Lufthansa. The airfield was selected 1987 of NASA as transatlantic forced landing place for space shuttle and adapted in the following years for this task in a third stage of development. Again measures the runway, the third-longest in Africa, 3,600 M.

The airport terminal was removed in a fourth stage of development in the year 1996 for approximately ten million US Dollar to at that time most modern airport of west Africa. The complex has now an effective area of 9.000 m and is appropriate for a capacity of one million passengers per year.
