Banago is a Instant cocoa beverage, which was manufactured by the company Lindt & until approx. 1998 and sold to June 2000 - then only over the wholesale -. It was a country-wide well-known and popular breakfast beverage, whereby however never an acceptance could being achieved like e.g. with Ovomaltine. Coop and Denner had the product in the assortment.

The label name and its future

In Switzerland the mark Banago is registered since 1993 under the number 404,688 for the following goods:

  • N¤hrmittel (so far contained in the classes 5 and 30)
  • Cocoa and preparations for the preparation of beverages (Kl. 5, 30, 32).

At the 21.Januar 2003 the mark Banago under the new number 506,176 in the Swiss Board of Trade sheet (SHAB) was published for the company Calpior Branding Ltd. and for the following goods:

  • Coffee, cocoa, coffee substitute (Kl. 30).
  • Alcohol-free beverages, syrups and other for the preparation of beverages (Kl. 32).

At the 9.Juni 2004 a contradiction was rejected on the part of the company Lindt & against the recent entry of the label name "Banago" at least in first instance. Is unclear, which intends Calpior with the label name, because to anhin no new products with the label name "Banago" emerged.

Composition

Sugar, with low fat cocoa, Chocoladenpulver, grape sugar, whey powder, emulsifying agent (Lezithin E322), salt, flavour (Vanillin), Vitamine A, B1, B2, B6, C and D

  • Protein 6,7%
  • Fat 6,1%
  • Carbohydrates 71,7%
  • 1451kJ/100g powder

This composition was not changed during the production time. The Vitamingehalt stood under constant control of the Swiss Vitamin institute

Packing

It was packed in the blue cardboard containers typical for Banago to 1kg. They were inside coated and hermetically locked with aluminum with aluminum foil, which had to be first removed. Of the aluminum foil one could cut Silva points out. The picture shows the change of the Banago packing during that approx. production time (from right to left):

  • oldest version admitted to me: around approx. 1980
  • A glass of Banago is added: around approx. 1984
  • Signature "Banago" is shifted at top margin of the can: around approx. 1987
  • Multicolored signature becomes uniformly red: around approx. 1989
  • sportier Design with white and brown cup and keep in track-end to children around 1990
  • last version with dezent noble Design and Speedy Gonzales as advertising medium: around 1993

Starting from approx. the year 1994 additionally also plastic bag filling up packings were sold to 1kg (see picture at the beginning of the article).

Trivia

  • Last advertising medium for Banago was Speedy Gonzales. Thereby occasionally also sticking on pins with Speedy were attached to the packings, which obtain today however still no important collecting tank value.
  • A can cost 8.25 last in the Denner Discounter in Switzerland CHF
