Baldur Benedikt of Schirach (* 9. May 1907 in Weimar; "† 8 August 1974 in to the Mosel, Rhineland-Palatinate) was a politician of the NSDAP during the time of the national socialism.

Family

Schirach was the son of the ride master and grossherzoglich Saxonian chamber gentleman Carl Baily of Schirach (1873-1948), director of the national theatre Weimar, and its US-American wife Emma Middleton Lynah Tillou of Schirach (1872-1944). It buildup in one as it were liberally and progressive-enlightened as also conservative and emperor-faithful environment. His 7 years older brother Karl 1919, obviously from Gram over the resignation of the emperor and the Versailler of contracts, killed itself. March 1932 in Munich Henriette Hoffmann (* 3 February 1913; "† 27 January 1992), the daughter of the Hitler photographer professor Heinrich Hoffmann and its Mrs. Maria Theresia, geb. Baumann. Henriette brought to Angelika, Klaus, Robert and Richard between 1933 and 1942 the children to Welt.Einer of Baldurs grandchildren is the defence counsel and restaurant lawyer Ferdinand von Schirach, who defended Schabowski because of the wall-dead successfully in the so-called before the citizen of Berlin regional court. The marriage of Schirachs became again divorced on 20 July 1949 in Munich.

Life

As Schirach met 1925 Adolf Hitler and became its inspired trailer. With the reaching of the majority it occurred the NSDAP. 1928 he became leader of the National Socialist German student federation. On 30 October 1931 he was appointed the realm youth leader of the NSDAP and received the rank of a group leader in the SA.

After the seizure of power and synchronising all youth federations Hitler appointed him on 17 June 1933 the youth leader of the German Reich.

1936 he became undersecretary of state and made the membership in the Hitler Youth (HJ) the obligation, so that the HJ increased to 6 million members. Its efforts to attain control of the entire youth education led to a struggle for power with Arthur Axmann. 1939 announced Schirach voluntarily to the front and participated themselves in the France campaign. Axmann became at the 1. May 1940 first Schirachs deputy and on 7 August 1940 its successor. Schirach was appointed immediately by Hitler the gau leader and realm governor in Vienna and pulled with his family into the representative Viennese yard castle. After it in this time of the Schirachbunker one designated.

In this position, which he kept up to at the end of of 1945, it was responsible for the Deportation of the Viennese Jews, which it as "mean contribution to the European culture" designated. Schirach was avowed Antisemit, however he expressed several times careful criticism at the National Socialist Jew politics. For example it had been 1938 not in agreement with the Pogromen of the realm crystal night and the of the Hitler Youth had forbidden participating in it. When it besides on 24 June 1943 a better treatment of the east Europeans demanded, it fell with Hitler in disgrace.

Since it organized September 1940 the extended child land dispatch, while that approx. 2.5 million children from the cities threatened by the air war on the country were sent away.

After 1945

After the fall "of the third realm "it submerged and was considered first as dead. Later it placed however and 1946 in the processes because of crimes against the humanity to 20 years detention condemned itself, since it was responsible as gau leaders for the Deportation of 185.000 Austrian Jews in concentration camps.

During its detention time it became 1949 of its wife divorced. After the common dismissal with Albert Speer in the year 1966 it lived in a pension in and published 1967 under the title I believed in Hitler its memoirs. It denied from the mass murder at Jews to have known. Schirach lies in the lower part of the of cemetery in the third grave row buried. On its gravestone is the inscription: "I was one of you ".

The Hitler Youth song forward! Forward! originates from the feather/spring Baldur from Schirachs (melody: Hans's Otto borrowing man, 1942) and first in the Tonfilm Hitler boy Quex of the public was presented.
