Axel Springer (* 2. May 1912 in Altona, Hamburg; "† 22 September 1985 in Berlin) was founder and owner of the today's Axel Springer AG.

The publisher son started his career 1946 with the establishment of the Axel Springer GmbH in Hamburg. In the following year published it that Hamburg evening papers, soon followed further objects such as and, in the year 1952, which first expenditure of the boulevard newspaper "picture", which appeared since then daily. The PICTURE coined/shaped since then the opinion of a million-readership.

Springer weihte 1966 the new publishing house house in Berlin cross mountain.

1967 began the demonstrations and protests of predominantly left-wing oriented studentses against the publications from the Springer publishing house, particularly against the picture newspaper, called of them as Springer press, which a rather civil and worth-conservative world and politics policy mediated and which communism as well as the student APO and its leader Rudi Dutschke decided fought. Springer was accused "causing criminal offences", censorship and of the Hitler opponents/inside and to its legal position. With one of the Red Army parliamentary group (RAF) committed bomb attack on that Hamburg Springer multistoried buildings 1972, 17 coworkers were hurt.

With an arson attack on Springer Chalet with Gstaad in the year 1975 this burned completely down. The author could not be determined, until itself Swiss author Daniel de Roulet 2006 to the notice well-known.

1980 were Axel Springer joint founder of a conservative interest combination and the "citizen action democrat for bunch", who supported the CSU chairman Franz Josef bunch with the choice for the Office of the Federal Chancellor.

In January 1980 its son Axel Springer committed jr., which admits Sven Simon under the name as a sport photographer much was, Suizid. This event loaded the father heavily.

Springer died 1985 in West Berlin.

Its inheriting obligated Springer not to sell their inheritance up to the year 2015. Today its inheritance is administered predominantly by its fifth wife peace Springer.

Architecturally interesting among other things one of its houses is in Hamburg in the Grotiusweg 79. When "Claremont House" (so baptized by the today's owner) admits, its offer for sale geisterte in the last years several times by the media. Formerly duly to this possession the object Grotiusweg 75-77, also as mansion Michaelsen (draft Karl cutter) is well-known, which today the doll museum Elke resident. A further house from the 50's serves today than club house of a sail club.
