The scientific-technologic complex for aviation of o.k. Antonov (Russian: . briefly .., English: ANTONOV Aeronautical Scientific/Technical Complex) is Ukrainian, in former times Soviet, producer by airplanes and penalties from Kiew, designated after Oleg Konstantinowitsch Antonov. Antonov manufactures airplanes of most diverse kind since 1946.

Particularly admit are double-deckers built from 1947 to 1960 (until 1992 under license) An-2 as well as the largest transport aircrafts of the world, the An-124 and the An-225.

History

To 31. May 1946 was created by a decree of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union the design engineering department No. 153 with the aircraft factory Nowosibirsk and appointed Antonov as the leader. In the same decree the office was assigned the development of an airplane for the agriculture, later Antonov An-2. At the same time the gliders A-9 and A-10 were developed and produced in small numbers of items.

In the summer 1952 the design engineering department pulled after Kiew. At the end of of 1953 received the office the order to develop and build a military transport aircraft with two turbo-props. Since at this time a lack of specialists existed, in order to fulfill this task, at the beginning of 1954 numerous graduates of the institute for aviation Charkow and specialists from Kiew, Leningrad and Moscow were employed. Thus the task could be mastered, and Antonov An-8 completed its maiden flight on 11 February 1956.

In the course of the next 30 years numerous civilian and military airplanes were developed, among them types for the employment under extreme conditions like Antonov An-74 for the employment in the high north and Antonov An-32 for the employment in the high mountains. A complex was developed by factories, which can be called the western aircraft industry equally.

Into the 1970er years the adjustment of the office was changed, and it was begun with the development by transport aircrafts. Among other things 1971 were begun with the development Antonov An-124 Ruslan, a long-distance transport aircraft. 1982 could be accomplished the maiden flight of this type.

On 4 April 1984 Antonov died, and the design engineering department its name was lent to it in honours. To 15. May of the same yearly was appointed Pjotr Wassiljewitsch Balabujew the chief designer. It leads to today (2004) the enterprise.

With the development general-purpose transport aircraft for very heavy and bulky loads up to 250 t was begun a little later, Antonov An-225. This airplane was developed and built in the unbelievably short time from 3 years, so that in December 1988 the maiden flight could be accomplished. In May 1989 a Huckepack flight with the space shuttle Buran was accomplished in Baikonur, and in June the machine in a Flugshow in Le Bourget was demonstrated.

At present this type forms the backbone transport division of the enterprise, the Awialini Antonowa (English: Antonov airlines). This enterprise was created 1989, after one had received the permission of the government for accomplishing international orders for transportation. At present it carries the status of the national aviation transport enterprise of the Ukraine.

For some years no longer only airplanes are developed and built, but also land vehicles. For example Niederflurstrassenbahnen, trolley buses and racing cycles.
