The term Airway management (breath way management) one names all measures and knowledge, which serve to secure the respiratory system in the medicine. The respiratory system secures meant: Air can leak out unhindered into the lung and, while the aspiration is thus prevented surely the inhalation of e.g. blood, vomit, foreign bodies etc.

Airway management becomes necessary whenever the self-respiration is threateningly disturbed by accident or illness or if the self-respiration by sedation or Narkose artificially (iatrogen one limits and/or will is. To that extent Airway management is part of the emergency service, the emergency medicine, the anaesthesia and the intensive medicine.

Basis for the Airway management are knowledge of the structure and the function of the Atemtraktes and/or the respiratory system as well as their diseases and/or injuries.

For the safety device of the respiratory system serve

• determined storage measures like the stable side situation
• Handles (Esmarch handle, Krikoiddruck, BURP maneuver, C-grasp)
• the use of different artificially respirating assistance. Artificially respirating masks or tubes
• the work of alternative breath ways by a Koniotomie or a tracheotomy.

Since guarantees the respiration or artificial respiration the oxygen supply of the organism and thus an absence of the respiration is survived only for few minutes, the Airway management concerns itself with questions how:

• What is most favorable when which disturbance to do, in order to secure the breath way fast
• What does one do in which order, if a measure is not immediately
