An aid is an object, which is used, over a certain goal faster or better to reach than it without this would be possible. So one can use a stone instead of the intended tool (hammer), in order to strike with this as aids a nail into a board.

After the social legislation SGB V "§ are to 33 aids of articles, which are in individual cases necessary to be prevented in order to secure the success of a patient treatment, a threatening handicap or adjusted a handicap. Further details for this in aid (rehablitation).
