The agrarian sociology (also, in somewhat extended meaning: Land and agrarian sociology) is a partial discipline of the sociology, which is concerned with the rural society. In the center thereby the sociology of the agriculture and the village is located. Topics are for instance the modernization of rural areas, standards and values of rural families, the life situation of land women or also the representation of the village social structure.

Into the 1970er years was the agrarian sociology strongly, retrieving modernization oriented by on the one hand and on the other hand on at industrial company oriented. Younger ones scientist inside, which are pushed since then in addition, are located rather in connection with conceptions of a regionally adapted, ecological agriculture. Is referred here to the appearing annual critical agrarian report.

Scientific organization

In Germany in particular the section land and agrarian sociology of the German society for sociology as well as the research association for agricultural policy and agrarian sociology registered association in Bonn are to be called here.

Academically the agrarian sociology is frequently in agrarianscientific faculties settled, together with areas like the agricultural policy or agrarian history. Partially a clear demarcation is made to the general sociology. Departments for agrarian sociology there are at the universities Bonn, high home, at the George August university Goettingen, to the HU Berlin, to DOES Munich as well as at the Justus Liebig university pouring. To call the specialist area for ecological agrarian sciences of the university in addition is Kassel.
