In Germany the awake soldier designates the utility position and the order of a soldier, who mostly guards a military plant of any form for 24 hours. All members of a military guard of the German Federal Armed Forces are therefore awake soldiers.

Usually however the soldiers are meant, who do your service as posts and strips of a military or civilian guard. During their service you carry an upper arm seal with the label guard or patrol on the right upper arm as marking.

After joint service regulations 10/6 an awake course consists of the following utility positions:

• 1 officer of the guard service (OvWa)
• 1 deputy officer of the guard service (StOvWa)
• 1 sergeant of the guard (WaHa)
• 1 deputy sergeant of the guard (StWaHa)
• Awake soldier
