The Austrian magazine for Volkskunde appeared 1895 for the first time as magazine for Austrian Volkskunde. Between 1917 and 1944 it carried Viennese magazine for Volkskunde for the names. While it was not shifted from 1944 to 1946, it appears four times annual since that time with changed name. It is published by the association for Volkskunde in Vienna, which is connected with the Austrian museum for Volkskunde.

Still the writing line strives to ensure the goal of the consideration of all areas of the former Austrian-Hungarian monarchy fitted with the establishment. Thematically the range of the topics of the traditional canon reaches over the material and mental people culture, the Museologie up to questions the present people customer.
