Austin Healey is a British automark.
Overview
The Britisher Donald Mitchell Healey (1898-1988), born in Perranporth/Cornwall, wins 1928 its first running, the RAC Rallye. 1931 follow the profit of the famous Rallye Monte Carlo. After that 2. World war creates Healey 1945 the Donald Healey engine company. After different development (Nash Healey etc.) and victories when small running the Healey 100 is the star of a British automobile fair. Leonard lord OF Austin (1896-1967) becomes attentive on Healey; Austin and Healey agree upon 1952 a co-operation under the roof of BMC. The first 20 Austin Healey are built in Warwick. 1957 are shifted production after Abingdon. Series production is stopped 1967, because of intensified exhaust standards in the USA; production however resumed until 1972.
Special celebrity attained the Healey by its uncounted successes in the running and Rallyesport, for which it was almost suited by its building method (light body, large, torque-strong engine).
He surely attained a majority of the admittingness by the Rallye Fahrerin Pat Moss, one of the first serious Mrs. in the engine haven, sister of Stirling Moss and wife of Saab Rallye legend Erik Carlsson, who owes he allegedly also its pointed name "The Pig" ("the pig"). The reason for this designation is to be looked for surely in its incalculable handling, particularly the inclination to breaking out the tail, which can be controlled with difficulty even from professionals. Many the Healey's produced anyway in small number of items found so their early end, because the kind-fair use of the car requires an experienced and well-informed hand, a sensitive gas foot and an experienced "Popometer".
Donald Healey had already left the company 1968, when BMC (British engine corporation) was taken over of British Leyland.
