August Thyssen (*17. May 1842 in Eschweiler; "† 4 April 1926 on lock Landsberg) was a German Industrieller.

Life

After study at the poly-technical school Karlsruhe and the Handelshochschule in Antwerp August Thyssen worked first like its brother Joseph Thyssen in the banking house of its father Friedrich Thyssen.

it created 1867 with several relatives in Duisburg the iron work "Thyssen Foussol & CO ". 1870 were dissolved the society and Thyssen created with the released capital in Styrum with at the Ruhr the rolling mill Thyssen & CO., which the germ cell for one the largest integrated European Montankonzerne should form. Contrary to other companies Thyssen formed getting thing however only briefly before its death. Most time existed its parts of the enterprise parallel and were decentralized led. Largest society was here the 1891 taken over trade union of German emperors in the Hamborner quarter Bruckhausen.

Together with Hugo Stinnes was Thyssen of one the founder of the RWE.

On 3 December 1872 Thyssen Hedwig Pelzer married. The marriage became already 1885 divorced. Whether Thyssen was actually father of the four children August, Heinrich, Fritz and Hedwig was never clarified. In order to go around a dissolution of the Thyssen company by the divorce, transferred Thyssen the vested titles at the company its children, kept however the usufruct and excluded the children in such a way from the management.

The Thyssen company came up before the Second World War to large parts in the united steel plants AG. The enterprises, which became again-justified after the Second World War, merged 1997 with KruppHoesch into the ThyssenKrupp AG.
