The first was published by the brothers August William Schlegel and Friedrich Schlegel from 1798 to 1800. It formed the central literary organ the early romance in Jena. A continuation was the magazine published by Friedrich Schlegel 1803 '' Europe ''.

The name was borne also later by different magazines. So the Germany, formed shifted by Karl Riedel in Berlin, by the 1841 magazine of the same name with the sub-title magazine for, which published the first publication of Karl Marx (savage of songs). Garrigue Masaryk published a monthly magazine of the same name with contributions starting from 1883 in Prague to the Czech culture and science.
