The magazine appearing from 1956 to 1990 in the GDR army-round-look was a magazine for soldiers, which reached an edition of up to 340.000 copies. That about 80 to 100 sides strong booklet in the A5-Format had one million reader after information of the editorship regularly about.

The kleinformatige "acre" was the counterpart to the "People's Army", the more militarypolitically aligned weekly paper of the Ministry for national defense. In addition, it should represent rather in unterhaltsamer form the army everyday life, aimed at young people and soldier women.

Despite its relatively high price from a Mark was the "acre" particularly because of (however dressed) the pin Ups (less because of the Tipps of the "librarian") among soldiers likes. The magazine was published first by the German military publishing house, which renamed itself later in military publishing house of the GDR.
