The kurbrandenburgische colony Arguin consisted today's Mauritania of the island Arguin and the opposite coastal strip southeast from cape Blanco (cape Blanc) in the north.
On 5 October 1685 "lion" succeeded to the captain of the kurbrandenburgischen frigate, Cornelius Reers, surprise-raidlike occupation that up to then violently contested island Arguin red ago. With the end of the brandenburgisch Prussian colonial ambitions also the end came for the colony Arguin. The Frenchmen forestalled a Netherlands attack and attacked the castellet Arguin. Its crew under captain January Wynen Bastiaens could not withstand the attack, gave the castellet to 9. March 1721 up and withdrew itself fighting to the mainland. Thus the colony Arguin for Brandenburg/Prussia was lost.
Today, in the species-rich coastal landscape with cotton wool, shallow places and small islands and neighbouring desert, ideal a wintering area for migratory birds is there. Fish realm area with sea-turtles and Delfinen.
